How to get your Pioneer Pass
1. Bring your ID
To apply for your pass, please bring:
- Photo ID showing proof of age
Accepted forms include your driver’s licence, passport, or proof of age card. - Proof of residence
If your photo ID does not show your current Ballarat address, you’ll also need one of the following:- Utility bill
- Rates notice
- Residential tenancy agreement
2. We’ll process your pass
Our team will set up your Pioneer Pass on the spot.
Your digital pass will then be emailed directly to you.
Using your Pioneer Pass
When you return to Sovereign Hill, simply:
- Show your photo ID at the entrance.
- Our team will verify your account and issue your admission ticket for the day.
Important information for current Pioneer Pass holders
Sovereign Hill is currently updating its systems and records. All existing Pioneer Pass holders will be issued with a new, electronic Pass when they next visit Sovereign Hill.
Please allow extra time on your next visit for us to confirm your details and process your new pass.

Who is eligible to receive a Pioneer Pass?
The Sovereign Hill Pioneer Pass is available to anyone aged 70 or over who lives in one of the postcodes that make up the City of Ballarat Local Government area. This includes postcodes 3350, 3351, 3352, 3353, 3354, 3355, 3356, 3357, 3358, 3363, and 3364.
To receive a Pioneer Pass, you will need to provide proof of age (such as a passport, drivers’ license, or proof of age card) and proof of residence (such as a drivers’ license, utility bill, rates notice or residential tenancy agreement).
Can I purchase a Pioneer Pass online?
Pioneer Passes cannot be purchased or booked online. You can secure your pass at the Sovereign Hill front entrance on the day of your visit.
What benefits do I get from my Pioneer Pass?
As a Pioneer Pass holder, you will be able to visit Sovereign Hill on any day we are open to the general public free of charge. Daily capacity limits apply.
How do I book tickets with my Pioneer Pass?
You can secure your tickets at the Sovereign Hill front entrance on the day of your visit. Daily capacity limits apply. Online and advance Pioneer Pass bookings are not available.
Can I prebook a date for Winter Wonderlights using a Pioneer Pass?
No, you cannot pre-book online using a Pioneer Pass.
